OPERATION PAPERBACK: Operation Paperback (operationpaperback.org) is a non-profit, grassroots program founded in 1999 as one way of showing our appreciation for the sacrifices our military men and women make every day - often far from home.
We collect gently used books in many genres (no Romances), and send them to American troops deployed overseas. The weekly e-mails OP receives confirm how much the troops want and value these books. Temple Bat Yam started collecting and shipping books in February 2006 and have sent over 1000 books overseas.
If you can help out with the shipping costs, all donations are welcome. Please mail checks to Stu Eisenman, C/O Kites Tails & Toys, 9 Mason Drive, Selbyville, DE, 19975.

TBY SENDS LETTERS TO FAMILIES OF FALLEN TROOPS: The temple is participating in a project-initiated by Sy Longberg that sends letters to the families of fallen servicemen and women who have recently lost their lives in Iraq or Afghanistan. The message basically express our appreciation to their loved ones for the sacrifices they made and offer condolences to the families for their loss. Please look for and sign the letters after services and let these grieving parents know that as a member of Temple Bat Yam, you care.
DEERS HEAD HOSPITAL: To improve the quality of life for patients at Deer's head hospital. Temple Bat Yam for the past five years has been donating magazines, VCRs, DVDs, clothing, calendars, etc. Each year, Bat Yam has also sponsored and helped with a patient’s birthday party and contributed to their Christmas party. Keeping in mind the morale of the hospital staff, Temple Bat Yam has initiated Christmas parties for employees who are working at the hospital on Christmas day.

TEMPLE BAT YAM CONTINUES ITS ANNUAL TEDDY BEAR DRIVE FOR COASTAL HOSPICE: From the beginning of January through the first week of April members may donate NEW, huggable size Teddy bears for hospice. Cash is also gladly accepted toward the purchase of new Teddy bears. If you elect to donate cash to the Teddy bear program, please make checks payable to Temple Bat Yam and write Hospice on the memo line. Many of the terminally ill patients in hospice care find a Teddy bear very comforting. The bears are also given to the children in the Children’s Support Group. The Teddy bear brings comfort to both those in hospice care and those who are left behind. The Teddy bears must be brand new and of a huggable size. No Beanie Babies please. The Teddy bears can be dropped off at the Temple office.
